water dragon not shedding tail?

Posted by admin on November 29, 2011

our water dragon is currently shedding she has been four about maby 4 days now most of her body has shed but the skin on her tail remains there and looks like it wont be coming off. she is kept in a huge glass display case about 5 and a half feet long by 4 to 5 feet high the back is wooden and the sides (except front so we can see her) are covered to prevent nose rub and the warm side stays at 90 degrees and the cool side is 75. she has the basking lights and uv lights and there is a humidifier in there fairly big but keeps the humidity up to 80 and she has pool with fish for snacks and a filter and water heater to keep the temp up to 75 in the water and we use a moss and bark substrate. also she likes to climb up very high and just jump without any attemps to catch herself can a foot and a half drop hurt her at all if she lands on her tummy and why does she always run up to the edge of tank and try to get out when we go by her she doesnt run away she goes right up to use and tries to crawl out.

Chosen Answer:

Some young animals which haven’t shedded very often sometimes need help to get it going early on. Most sheds shouldn’t last any longer than a day. Either soaking in warm water or buying one of those reptile bath mixtures should work well. Also spraying the animal directly with water or a humidifying solution can help to ease sheds in the future.
